Sailboats, an escape from all of this.

So a couple of years ago the family went to Annapolis for the yearly boat show. This is so we are prepared to pick out our sailboat in the event of winning the lottery, or decide to sell everything and bug out. I blame the crew of the SV Delos. It’s their fault really, their crafty way of showing life aboard a sailboat. It’s a desirable life, away from all of the traffic, the noise and nonsense of everyday life on land, visiting places that would never happen if traveling by plane or with a tour.

You really don’t have any idea of what kind of boat will fit your lifestyle until you set foot on each type. Every single one is different and each one has their benefits and drawbacks. Catamaran or monohull? Fin keel, wing keel, daggerboard or centerboard? Sloop, ketch, cutter or schooner? So many choices, you really have to find the one that fits your needs.

We have sailed quite a bit in the past so we have enough knowledge to be dangerous, and the idea of living on a boat after the kids are out of the house seems like a cool idea. So we read, watch videos, and try and learn as much as we can so someday we may be able to live the dream.
