About Val Sorrells

I am a on location portrait photographer based in Rochester, New York.

The oldest of two children in a Kodak family, I grew up with a camera in my hand. We lived all over the East coast and a brief stint in the UK. The last big move was back to Rochester, where I started my professional career as a camera service engineer after earning a degree in photography and sculpture. I was fortunate to have traveled to Europe and Asia during that time. The experience of working with clients all over the world brought me a unique understanding of customer service and importance of family.

My work is a combination of storytelling and portraiture using a lifestyle approach. Over the last 16 years I have been using this style to capture portraits and weddings on location and in the studio. My tools include the ability to stay cool under pressure, a great sense of humor, and the ability to keep the attention of young children, dogs and large wedding parties. When I’m not working, I’m hanging with my family, snowboarding or mountain biking with my ski patrol family, gardening, or enjoying a really good beer.
